Montana River Safaris

Montana River Safaris on the Yellowstone, Madison or Jefferson River

Float down the Yellowstone, Jefferson, or Madison River enjoying birds, wildlife, history,
and the spirit of Montana. Relax with a gourmet picnic lunch. Take a swim, if you choose. The day is
yours on this private tour designed to your preferences with historian, naturalist, and wildlife guide,
Ken Sinay from Montana River Safaris.

These rivers are all important tributaries to the mighty Missouri. They all have their own character,
mood and scenery. The Jefferson is a good choice for a float early in the season with potential moose
and eagle sightings. The Yellowstone, flowing north from Yellowstone National Park carries rich
history with its native Minnetaree name: “Mi tse a-da-zi. The Madison river is where mountain man
John Colter evaded the Blackfeet Indians by hiding under driftwood. Your guide will have a story to
tell on each river!

Choose Your River Experience

MADISON RIVER

Great for wildlife, half day or full day safaris

This is a short, very secure and safe, river float.

A favorite Wildlife River Safari (best for moose and beaver)!

Great habitat and you are actually at the origination points of the Missouri River.

JEFFERSON RIVER

Best for full day, Lewis & Clark’s Route, remote

This is most often a full day event.

The Jefferson is the actual Lewis and Clark Route to the west and is also William Clark’s return route.

The most remote River Safari trip.

Few houses, excellent scenery, and excellent wildlife opportunities.

Full Day River Safari tours like this can include swimming and water fun!

A pristine wilderness experience in a single day event.

YELLOWSTONE RIVER

The Yellowstone is big and beautiful! Extremely scenic!

Good wildlife, particularly bald eagles and other birds of prey, but still have opportunities for beaver, mink, and river otter.

Full day trips include “mini hikes” on islands.

Half Day trips may occur close to Gardiner, Montana.

We float in either Paradise Valley or downstream of Livingston for a more remote, wilderness experience and William Clark’s actual return route.

A real “Great Plains” experience.

What to Bring on Your River Safari

Here’s what to bring to make your river safari even more memorable:

Warm Clothing & Layers

Weather in Southwest Montana can change quickly, and temperatures vary widely. Bring plenty of layers no matter the forecast. (A wind layer can come in handy as well.)

Cameras

Bring any camera or video recording device you like! Between the wildlife and sweeping views of the river, you’ll want to capture these moments.

Sunscreen & Sunglasses

Regardless of temperature or sun exposure, bring sunscreen (SPF 30 or higher), sunglasses and a hat to shield yourself from the strong UV rays throughout the day.

Water Bottles

Southwest Montana has a dry, high-elevation climate. Bring your own water bottle or hydration pack and drink plenty of water to stay hydrated throughout the day. You'll need 2 liters per person for half day hikes or 3 liters per person for full day hikes.
